Students who feel that rights accorded to them in the Charter of Student Rights  has been infringed upon either through the action or inaction of a member of the University occupying a position of authority over the student, the student may seek redress. Students are encouraged to first seek redress through informal mechanisms, such as through the relevant Department or Faculty, the Ombudsperson for Students, or the Office of the Dean of Students.

If these informal channels do not address the student's concerns, they may lodge a grievance under the Code of Student Grievance Procedures using the Student Grievance Form. The Code of Student Grievance procedures lays out the role and membership of the Senate Committee on Student Grievances, as well as procedures for hearings and appeals. The whole process is depicted below.

If you have any questions about informally resolving a grievance, filing a formal grievance, or the formal grievance process, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students.

If you are feeling distressed or are concerned about someone you know and you would like to connect to a case manager for support, please email casemanager [at] mcgill.ca (casemanager[at]mcgill[dot]ca).
