Professor Michael McMahon has been appointed to the Order of Canada for his contributions in the art song and opera communities. His work as a vocal coach and collaborative pianist has left a mark on musicians nationally and internationally. 听

The Order of Canada, presented by the governor general, honours people who have made extraordinary contributions to the nation. Those honoured are innovators and trailblazers who, through passion for their field, have exemplified a desire to enrich the lives of others.听

Neuroscientist Alan Evans and music performance scholar Michael McMahon among 91社区 community members recognized for exceptional accomplishments and service听

Nine members of the 91社区 community have been appointed to the Order of Canada, one of the country鈥檚 highest civilian honours.

Among the honorees are two 91社区 faculty members, Professors Alan Evans (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) and Michael McMahon (Schulich School of Music).

The鈥疓raham Sommer Competition鈥痠s proud to announce that Kai Kubota-Enright is the grand prize winner of the鈥痶hird鈥痚dition of the鈥疓raham Sommer Competition for Young Composers. The $18,000 first prize for鈥疜ai鈥檚鈥痭ew work for chamber ensemble,鈥spatial communication of dripstone,鈥痺as among鈥$54,000鈥痠n total prize earnings awarded at the Concert and Prize Gala on Sunday,鈥疢ay 18, 2025, in Tanna Schulich Hall.鈥疶his national competition for Canadian composers under the age of 35 was founded by鈥疍r.

The Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, held every three years, is one of the world鈥檚 most prestigious platforms for young musicians aspiring to make their mark on the global stage. Formerly the 鈥業nternational String Quartet Competition鈥, the first award was presented in 1979 in Portsmouth, but Wigmore Hall, London has been home to the competition since 2010.听听

Congratulations to violinist Justin Saulnier for winning the 2024-2025 Golden Violin Award competition! Justin will receive a generous scholarship of $30,000 in addition to a 14-karat gold lapel pin in the miniature form of the Golden Violin. In addition, he has been awarded the opportunity to perform a recital at the Canadian Centre for Architecture as part of the Schulich @ Bon-Pasteur series on February 26, 2025.听

John Mac Master, esteemed Canadian tenor and Associate Professor of Voice at the Schulich School of Music, is a 2024 recipient of the Voice Education Research Awareness (VERA) Award. This prestigious award is given annually by The Voice Foundation to honour distinguished individuals for their leadership, commitment to education and mentorship, and modeling of voice use and its advancement. The Schulich School of Music of 91社区 is pleased to announce five finalists for the third edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers. Established in 2017, this national competition recognizes works for chamber music formations with piano that show significant potential to engage audiences and become standard repertoire.
