Goodbye eCalendar, hello Course Catalogue

After many long years, our trusty eCalendar, found at mcgill.ca/study has been retired. We hope it enjoys the rest and relaxation. The Course Catalogue found at is taking its place. We know it is up to the challenge!

What this means for your WMS site:

The short tags that you have used to display course content on your site pages still work, with some exceptions outlined below. The styling of the displayed information has been given an update, and will look great on your site whether it is in the Legacy WMS or already migrated to the New WMS.

Changes to short tags:

  • Short size tags will display as a link:
    • The short size short tag was phased out some time ago (but was still available if you knew it existed). Now that we are starting fresh, the information will now display with the "link" formatting.
    • If you are using the short size short tag, you don't need to take action right away, but it's a best practice to change these tags to the link size when you have time as part of your regular content clean-up.
    • Example of link formatting:

  • General Information tags have been retired:
    • The general information short tag, which displayed university regulations information will no longer be available.
    • If you wish to link to this information, first find it on and then use a regular link on your WMS page to make sure that the information always stays up to date.
  • Previous years' course and program information will no longer display:
    • The new course catalogue will only display information from the current year. Short tags modified to display information from a previous year will now show the current content.
    • If your site was modifying short tags to display information from a previous year, double check to make sure the current information is appropriate, and if not, remove the short tag entirely.
  • Retired programs will no longer display:
    • Some programs have joined the eCalendar on the terrasse with a cocktail. The information for these programs will no longer display on your WMS site when you use a short tag.
    • If any of the programs you were displaying have been retired, you can remove the short tag as part of your regular cleanup. In the meantime, no information for these programs will display.
