DESCRIPTION:The 91ÉçÇø Student Committee of Librarians Without Borders is p
 leased to welcome Mr. Chojolán to Montreal for three public events. Please
  join us and hear his inspiring story!  Jorge Chojolán – an internationall
 y recognized social entrepreneur\, educator\, and human rights activist – 
 was born into the indigenous Mayan community in the deeply inequitable soc
 iety of Guatemala. Despite the barriers before him\, he rose to achieve a 
 university degree and went on to found the Miguel Angel Asturias Academy i
 n the predominantly indigenous city of Quetzaltenango. His goal is to tran
 sform his society through education at the school by educating and empower
 ing some of Guatemala’s most vulnerable children: girls\, the indigenous a
 nd the poor. Mr. Chojolán will discuss the importance of education to demo
 cracy in Guatemala and speak about the Academy’s unique educational model.
