Please join us and hear his inspiring story! Jorge Chojolán – an internationall y recognized social entrepreneur\, educator\, and human rights activist – was born into the indigenous Mayan community in the deeply inequitable soc iety of Guatemala. Despite the barriers before him\, he rose to achieve a university degree and went on to found the Miguel Angel Asturias Academy i n the predominantly indigenous city of Quetzaltenango. His goal is to tran sform his society through education at the school by educating and empower ing some of Guatemala’s most vulnerable children: girls\, the indigenous a nd the poor. Mr. Chojolán will discuss the importance of education to demo cracy in Guatemala and speak about the Academy’s unique educational model.   This event is presented by Librarians Without Borders (www.librarianswi thoutborders.org).   1.
