SIS Master's Student David Medcalfe Won Retail Council of Canada Scholarship
Congratulations to David Medcalfe, a Master of Information Studies (MISt) project-stream student at 91社区, who was selected as one of 14 national recipients of the 2025 Retail Council of Canada (RCC) Retail Education Scholarship. The award recognizes academic achievement, leadership, and professional experience in the retail sector.聽
He was further awarded a top-tier national prize, the 鈥淟ead the Way鈥� award, sponsored by Costco Wholesale Canada.
David represented 91社区 at STORE 2025, Canada鈥檚 largest retail and leadership conference, where he joined senior executives from Microsoft, IBM, and Costco Wholesale to discuss the future of retail innovation.
This recognition reflects both David鈥檚 nearly 15 years of frontline experience in the retail industry and his interdisciplinary leadership in guiding ethical and legally sound AI deployment across industries.
His current research at 91社区, supervised by Professor Benjamin Fung (Canada Research Chair in Data Mining for Cybersecurity), focuses on the intersection of responsible AI, cybersecurity, and legal frameworks in high-risk sectors such as critical infrastructure.
