The re cent emergence of foundation models\, however\, is dissolving these tradit ional barriers\, enabling the development of the first truly generalist ag ents. In this talk\, we will discuss the core methods for building the gen eralist agents\, particularly focusing on learning from vast\, yet imperfe ct real-world data. We explore the progression of training paradigms\, sta rting from large-scale imitation learning and advancing to reinforcement l earning aligned with a variety of human data\, to scaling reinforcement le arning to large capacity transformer architectures with suboptimal data. N ext\, we examine inference-time learning\, where agents can adapt to new t asks and environments on-the-fly\, without retraining. This adaption capac ity\, along with self-correction methods are a key step toward self-improv ing and truly autonomous systems. We will contextualize the societal impac t of these advancements using a 'Levels of AGI' framework\, drawing an ana logy to the levels of autonomy in self-driving cars. Finally\, we will out line the critical open research problems for the next generation of agenti c AI. This includes scalable solutions for online planning and continual l earning\, the development of robust world models\, and ensuring value alig nment in open-ended sequential decision-making. We will discuss how new fr ontiers in bioengineering\, computational social sciences\, and robotics a re not only powerful applications with major societal impact\, but also es sential drivers for the next generation of foundational agentic systems.\n \n \n DTSTART:20250904T140000Z DTEND:20250904T151500Z LOCATION:Room 1104\, Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY: Aleksandra Faust (Genesis Therapeutics\, Burlingame\, CA) URL:/mathstat/channels/event/aleksandra-faust-genesis- therapeutics-burlingame-ca-366976 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
