´¡²ú²õ³Ù°ù²¹³¦³Ù:Ìý The Romans in Carthage (Tunisia today), the English turning against their neighbours in the second millennium, and the Crusaders slaughtering every person in Béziers, France are all the results of a mentality of disposability. Scholars like Thomas Malthus — whose works are still taught today — asserted that Indigenous nations and confederacies themselves embraced a mentality of disposability. Nothing could be further from the truth, writes professor emeritus Georges Sioui, who describes how today’s world could benefit from understanding love for Mother Earth as the basis for all actions. The mentality of disposability permeates today’s discussions of labour, mobility, trade and many other current issues. Where can we find inspiration to heed the call of Sioui and others, and what actions would we need to take as a consequence? From the capital city of a state that sends bullets to uphold genocide, guest speaker Nadia Abu-Zahra invites us to consider the paths forward.
