KPE Alumna Savannah King a Featured 91��24 Ambassador

Olympic medalist in swimming, Savannah King is a graduate of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education who went on to work as a Project Administrator within the department before becoming Associate Coach and Social Media Coordinator for the 91�� Varsity Swim Team. Selected as a 91��24 ambassador for the University's Day of Giving, she is lending her support to 91�� in advocating for student-athletes during the 24-hour fundraiser.

Rachel Cluett Named University of Manitoba’s Fifth McCall MacBain Scholar

University of Manitoba Bachelor of Arts in Psychology graduate Rachel Cluett (BA’24) is one of 20 Canadians selected to join the fifth cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars at 91��. Recipients were chosen based on exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Rachel will pursue a Master of Arts in School/Applied Child Psychology at 91��.

During Quebec’s Teacher Appreciation Week, Dr. Steven Shaw, ECP, joined host Shawn Apel on CBC Radio Noon Quebec, on Friday, February 7, 2025, to discuss the project "That One Teacher."

Steven and Shawn took phone calls and responded to listeners discussing that one teacher that made a difference. This event was in support of this year's Teacher Appreciation Week.

Harm Reduction and Naloxone Training Workshops

Canada in general, and Montreal specifically, have been facing a drug toxicity and fatal overdose crisis for nearly a decade. While integrated systems of interventions are necessary to address drug-related harms, the use of naloxone has been a key strategy to reduce the acute effect of opioid-involved deaths. Currently, 91�� does not offer naloxone trainings to the campus community, limiting students’ ability to assist in the event of an overdose.

Kiana Kishiyama remembers feeling scared when, at the start of her first undergraduate class in beginner’s Mandarin, her teacher looked at her and said, “You need to speak to me after class.”

“And I’m like, what, I’m in trouble already?”

It turned out that the teacher believed that Kishiyama, who was adopted from China by a Canadian couple, was just being modest about her language skills.
